Scholarship applications will have a submission deadline and committee review date based on the class start date
Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Representative for completion. Applicants that submit complete applications and paperwork and meet the eligibility requirements will move on to the Scholarship Committee review process. Incomplete applications or those who don’t meet the eligibility requirements will be notified via email. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
General Scholarship Requirements for NFI:
In order to be eligible for consideration, those applying for a NFI Scholarship must:
- Have graduated (or in the process of graduating) high school with a minimum 3.00/4.00 GPA or equivalent
- Scholarship applications must be submitted a minimum of 30 days prior to the intended start date at NFI.
- Have met the admissions requirements for the Cinema Production Program.
- Complete and submit the application prior to starting the Cinema Production Program. Complete the required essays. In each essay, we want to hear your genuine voice. Think carefully about your values, passions, aims, and dreams. There is no “right answer” to these questions—the best answer is the one that is truest for you.
- Essay A: What matters most to you, and why? (Recommended Length: 750 words)For this essay, we would like you to reflect deeply and write from the heart. Once you’ve identified what matters most to you, help us understand why. You might consider, for example, what makes this so important to you? What people, insights, or experiences have shaped your perspectives?
- Essay B: Why NFI? (Recommended Length: 400 words)Describe your aspirations and how your NFI experience will help you realize them.
- Two Letters of Recommendation from 2 different people unrelated to the applicant. One letter must come from a member of the Film Industry (i.e., mentor, client (current or former), coworker).
- A 1 min demo reel showcasing any ability of your choice. (E.g., Acting, Cinematography, Editing etc.) You may choose to use a cellphone to create your demo reel.
How are NFI scholarships funded?
NFI has created a separate fund that manages and invests donations (from individuals, organizations and commitments from NFI to help underprivileged and outstanding students).
